Iceland is like being on another planet with its otherworldly landscapes featuring volcanoes, glaciers, geysers, waterfalls, and the mesmerizing Northern Lights!  We visit the beautiful sights of the island from west to east including the Golden Circle and the southern coast. Along the route we discover the dramatic Icelandic landscapes from the comfort of a spacious 4×4 Super Truck. We take care of the accommodations, guiding, transportation, park fees and all of the details! You just need to buy your own flights and some meals. Currently, IcelandAir has direct non-stop flights from Detroit at $400 to $560 roundtrip.

Some epic scenery and highlights you may enjoy:

  • Reykjavík – We start and end our tour in Iceland‘s vibrant capital, known for its colorful buildings, rich cultural & food scene, and the iconic Hallgrímskirkja church.
  • Thingvellir National Park – Start your morning by standing between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates where they meet. One foot on each continent!
  • Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach – a dramatic black sand beach with rock towers and powerful waves.
  • Gullfoss – one of the most powerful waterfalls in Europe, over several multi-step tiers and cliffs into the canyon below.
  • Strokkur Geyser – a highly active geothermal hot springs area that erupts every few minutes, shooting boiling water up to 65 feet into the air.
  • Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon – Here you will see huge icebergs floating out to the Atlantic Ocean and maybe some wildlife including seals and dolphins.
  • Skógafoss – one of Iceland‘s largest and most powerful waterfalls, known for its impressive spray and vibrant rainbows.
  • Kerid Crater – volcanic crater lake with vivid blue waters set amidst red volcanic rock formed at least 3,000 years ago.
  • Vatnajökull – Europe’s largest national park offers vast ice capped mountains, volcanic landscapes and the largest glacier in Europe. We can tour an ice cave and see icebergs by land or boat.
  • Diamond Beach – a beach where sparkling chunks of ice wash ashore and glisten like diamonds against the black sand.
  • Vik – a picturesque coastal village nestled beneath dramatic cliffs, known for stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and a good craft brewery.
  • Skaftafell & Svartifoss – aka “Black Falls,” a striking waterfall renowned for its unique backdrop of dark hexagonal basalt columns that resemble a black organ pipe… and the Skaftafellsjökull glacier next door.
  • Dyrhólaey Lighthouse – stunning panoramic views of the rugged coastline, black sand beaches, and striking rock formations including the famous arch-shaped cliff.
  • LAVA Centre or Lava Show – Largest interactive, high-tech exhibition in Europe depicting volcanic activity, earthquakes and the creation of Iceland over millions of years. See what happens when lava meets ice.
  • Seljalandsfoss – a path allows us to walk behind the tall, cascading waterfall.
  • Selfoss – a pedestrian-friendly college town with a trendy food hall.
  • plus wild Icelandic horses, reindeer, sheep and so much more! I am currently in Iceland for yet another visit to scout more locations and create the perfect itinerary for you.

Which tour is right for me? You may have noticed that I have two Iceland tours listed on my website. What’s the difference? The Aug/Sept tour features a more relaxed schedule and will be a little warmer (high: 54° low 45°) and feature a more daylight (sunset 8:45pm).  The November tour offers a few more “cold weather” opportunities for adventure-seekers like dogsledding or exploring ice caves as temperatures drop about ten degrees (high: 43° low 35°) and you have more dark hours to hunt for Northern Lights (sunset 4:40pm). This tour is also one day longer to visit a few extra spots. Both tours have the same chance of rain, clouds and aurora activity. Currently, flights are slightly cheaper in November and there are less tourists. Plus, the November tour may overlap with Reykjavik’s Airwaves indie-music festival (2025 dates TBA). Both tours are great times to visit Iceland once the summer tourists leave and the Northern Lights begin to show!
